The Gorgon Medusa Earring is a 925 sterling silver stud carrying the face of Medusa, the gorgon of Greek myth whose hair was a nest of snakes and whose gaze turned anyone who met it to stone. The face is shown front-on, with the serpents rising out of the hairline and coiling around the edge of the piece.

The snakes double as the border of the stud rather than hanging from it. In Greek and Roman use the gorgon's head was set on shields and doorways to turn away harm, and it is worn here as that kind of protective symbol rather than as a religious piece.
