The Mariner Chain Necklace is a chain in 925 sterling silver worked in the mariner pattern, in which every oval link carries a bar across its middle, the same construction used for anchor chain at sea. The links sit edge to edge in one plane, so the bars line up in a row down the front.
The crossbar is exactly what separates a mariner from a plain cable chain: it holds each link open under load, stops the run from folding in on itself and divides the length into even, repeating sections. A lobster clasp closes it.
