The Gorgon Medusa Head Necklace is a sterling silver pendant carrying the head of Medusa, the Gorgon of Greek myth whose gaze turned anyone who met it to stone. The face looks straight out of the pendant, and her hair is worked as a mass of snakes twisting away from the head.

The surface is left smooth rather than textured, so the light runs unbroken across the face and catches only in the cut lines of the snakes and the eyes. The severed Gorgon head was fixed to shields in antiquity to turn away harm, and it is worn here as a symbol rather than as a religious piece.
